What happens to your IT hardware once it arrives at W3E?

What actually happens to that pile of old computers, monitors and servers once we pick them up from you? In many companies, ICT hardware disappears into a forgotten closet. But at W3E, a whole new and valuable process begins right there.

Would you like to return your old laptops? In this article, we take you on the journey that your hardware undertakes: from the first click on our website to a sustainable second destination.

Step 1: It starts with the inventory

It all starts with organization. You have hardware that can be disposed of, but what exactly is it? To help you as best as possible, we ask you to provide the following information: ICT inventory list To be filled in on our website. Alternatively, we will send you a pickup registration form via email.

This is an important first step. With this, you will map out which equipment you have and all the specifications of each device. You will also indicate whether you want to receive an extensive report or whether certified data destruction should be applied. Whether it involves 10 or 1000 devices, this list is the basis for our plan of action. Based on this list, we will make an initial estimate of the potential residual value after processing. This way, you will know exactly what you can expect to receive for your old hardware.

Step 2: No hassle thanks to our pickup service

Once you agree to our bid, all you have to do is make an pickup appointment. No heavy boxes to lift or trips to the recycling center. Our easy ICT pick-up and drop-off service comes to your location, wherever in the Netherlands you are located.

Our staff carefully load everything and ensure safe transport to our processing center. From the moment we take over the ICT hardware, we bear full responsibility for its safety and proper processing.

Step 3: Your data permanently deleted

Once we have you on board, our first goal is safety. Your old hardware is likely still full of business information or personal data. That’s why we start the registration and the process immediately. data destruction.

  • Software-based destruction: We use the advanced Blancco software to ensure that your digital data is erased in a safe and irreversible manner. This software overwrites the data on your devices multiple times, making it impossible to recover it. You will always receive an official certificate for your own records.
  • Physical destruction: Sometimes a hard drive is defective or the equipment is simply too old to be wiped mechanically. In that case, we choose the shredder. The data carrier is then physically shredded into small pieces. This way, we can be sure that the data has been securely removed.

Step 4: Reuse of devices

At W3E, we believe in a circular economy. Our first priority is therefore always reuse. Did you know that as many as 70% of the ICT hardware we receive gets a second life with us?

After the data has been securely removed, each device is thoroughly tested and professionally cleaned.

If a laptop is still in good condition, we sell it through a network of specialized external partners and end customers worldwide.

Step 5: Responsible recycling of parts

Sometimes a device is really broken or malfunctioning. In that case, we switch to Recycling of e-waste (electronic waste).

How do we approach recycling computer parts? We take the device apart and sort the materials: plastic and valuable metals such as copper, silver, and even a small amount of gold from the printed circuit boards. W3E is WEEELABEX-certified. This is a strict European certification that guarantees that we recycle hardware according to the highest environmental standards. The raw materials we recover are supplied to our WEEELABEX recycling partner. They are then used to make new products. And that’s how the cycle continues.

Step 6: Transparency through reporting

We believe it is important that you know exactly what the impact of your choice of W3E is. At W3E, we believe in transparency. Therefore, you can request a detailed report on the results of the recycling process from us annually. In The report from last year You can see, among other things, how much raw material has been made suitable for reuse and what the effect of this has been on the CO2 footprint.
